Case Study
Location – South Korea
Partners involved – Shell, Technip and Samsung Heavy Industries
Background
Simian were initially contracted to provide ten experts to work on the groundbreaking Prelude FLNG.
The team of experienced CISRS Advanced Scaffolders began work back in September 2014 and were on-site to support and mentor local scaffolding staff working on the project.
What is the Prelude FLNG?
Currently under construction at the Samsung Shipyard in South Korea, the Shell Prelude is a floating liquefied gas production vessel. At 480 metres long x 80 metres wide it is the first of its kind and when completed will be the largest floating vessel in the world.
The vessel is due to set sail in 2017. It will be moored off the coast of Australia where it will be used to decant gas to tankers. Incredibly it will have no physical connection to land.
Simian International’s Involvement
We joined the project in September 2014. Our men were asked to work alongside and train the Korean scaffolders to the British and European Standards and prepare them for CISRS training. We were also there to mentor, help and support the trained and experienced scaffolders onsite and share best practice.
Since starting on the project our involvement has been extremely varied. Simian staff have been involved in everything from providing classroom and practical on-site training as well as mentoring, scaffold inspection, supervision, 3rd party scaffolding audits and providing assistance to the TSC Scaffold – HSSE leads. We have contributed to over 3,000,000 hours without a lost time incident or accident in scaffolding.
We have become the ‘go to’ people for scaffolding on this groundbreaking, global project.
We have a team on site and we are contracted up to 30th September 2016.
