In the construction and scaffolding industry, safety is often associated with PPE, permits, and supervision. While these are essential, they are not enough on their own. One of the most common and costly misconceptions in our industry is the belief that training only supervisors or a few key workers is sufficient.

In reality, scaffolding and construction safety only works when the entire team is trained.

1. Scaffolding Is a Team Activity, Not a One Person Task

Scaffolding is erected, modified, inspected, and dismantled by teams, not individuals. Every person involved, from the lead hand to the operative, affects the safety and stability of the structure.

If only one or two people understand:

Load limits

Correct bracing

Safe access and egress

Tie patterns and sequencing

then the scaffold is only as safe as its least informed worker.

2. PPE Protects Individuals, Training Protects Everyone

Personal Protective Equipment reduces injury severity, but it does not prevent unsafe actions.

Training does.

A trained workforce:

Recognises hazards before they become incidents

Knows when to stop work and raise concerns

An untrained worker can unknowingly place others at risk, even if they are fully equipped with PPE.

3. One Trained Supervisor Cannot Watch Every Action

Supervisors play a critical role, but no supervisor can monitor every connection, every lift, and every modification at all times.

When the whole team is trained:

Errors are identified early, not after an incident

This creates a proactive safety culture, not a reactive one.

4. Most Scaffolding Incidents Involve Human Error

Industry data consistently shows that scaffolding incidents often result from:

Incorrect assembly

These are training issues, not supervision issues.

5. Training Improves Productivity and Quality

Well-trained teams:

Safety and productivity are not opposites, they support each other.

6. Compliance, Reputation, and Legal Responsibility

Clients, regulators, and accreditation bodies increasingly expect evidence that:

All scaffolders are competent

[text]In the world of scaffolding, proper training and certification hold immense importance to ensure safety, compliance, and professionalism. Simian International, a renowned scaffolding training center offering CISRS OSTS scaffolding course training, has always prioritized authenticity and excellence.
However, a recent incident has shed light on a growing concern within the industry – the prevalence of fake cards and certificates. We received an email confirmation from the New Zealand Immigration, revealing that two individuals’ certification verification yielded alarming results: their certificates and cards were found to be fraudulent. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by counterfeit credentials and calls for greater vigilance and verification processes.

Simian International’s emphasizes the importance of upholding authenticity and integrity within the scaffolding training industry. Ensuring the legitimacy of certifications is vital for safeguarding worksite safety, maintaining industry standards, and protecting the reputation of genuine professionals.[/text][text]

The Significance of Legitimate Certification:

Certification is not just a piece of paper or a card; it represents a scaffold erector’s competency, knowledge, and adherence to industry standards. Genuine certification ensures that individuals possess the necessary skills and training to carry out their work safely and efficiently.

It also provides peace of mind to employers, clients, and regulatory bodies, knowing that trained professionals are entrusted with the responsibility of erecting and dismantling scaffolding structures.

Unveiling the Threat of Fake Cards and Certificates:

The incident involving the New Zealand Immigration confirmation brought to the forefront the ever-present threat of fake cards and certificates in the scaffolding industry. It highlights the lengths to which some individuals may go to deceive employers, potentially compromising worksite safety and project integrity.

The consequences of such fraudulent activities can be severe, ranging from accidents and injuries to legal liabilities and reputational damage for organizations.[/text][custom_heading level=”h3″ id=”” class=”” style=””]Watch the Video to Know full detail[/custom_heading][dima_embed_video boxed=”true” id=”” class=”” style=””][/dima_embed_video][clear by=”15px” id=”” class=””][text]

The Importance of Verification Procedures:

To combat the growing menace of fake cards and certificates, stringent verification procedures are crucial. Organizations like Simian International must diligently cross-reference their databases and authentication systems to ensure the legitimacy of certifications.

Creating Awareness and Promoting Transparency:

This incident serves as a rallying call for the scaffolding industry to create awareness and promote transparency regarding the risks of counterfeit certifications.

Industry stakeholders, including training centres, employers, and regulatory bodies, should work together to educate individuals on the consequences of using fake credentials. Furthermore, organizations must foster an environment that encourages reporting and whistleblowing to expose any suspicious activities related to certification fraud.[/text]

[text]How verify your certificate/card

Dramatic video footage has emerged of a scaffold that collapsed on Sunday afternoon, in Ruwi, the main commercial hub of the Sultanate’s capital city, Muscat.

https://simianinternational.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/IMG_2927.mp4

The scaffold was being used during a construction project and fortunately came down when the area was quiet and so no injuries were sustained. Some damage to cars parked in the area was reported.

Speaking after the collapse, a worker at the construction site said, said, “We heard a loud sound. When we rushed to see, we found that a big scaffolding had come down. The cars parked at the foot of the building were damaged. Fortunately, no worker or passerby was injured.”

It is very often the case that when scaffolds do collapse, this can be attributed to inadequate anchoring to the adjacent structure. The National Access and Scaffolding Confederation provide guidance on the anchorage of scaffolds in their TG20:13 and TG4:17 publications, both of which are available for purchase from their online store. What’s more, TG20:13 is currently being discounted by 50%!

Simian clients requiring advice on how to safely anchor scaffolding are free to contact their Account Manager on 0345 602 2418.
